LEADER grant gives preschool a makeover!

Mickle Trafford Preschool & Community Room has recently undergone an external makeover thanks to a business grant from the Cheshire LEADER Fund supported by EU Funding.
The building has been transformed with better insulation and a whole new look. Kate Linford, Committee Chair said, ‘We are delighted to be awarded this business grant to allow us to improve our community-led Preschool environment. The building improvements mean that its longevity has been vastly improved with the added benefit that it is so much more attractive than previously. It will also be more energy-efficient thanks to the insulation. We could not have achieved this without the Cheshire LEADER Fund.’

Preloved book and DVD sale

We will be holding a community event at preschool with a preloved book and DVD sale. Come along on Sunday 10th February from 10 am until 2pm.  All proceeds will go to the preschool to fund activities for the children. You can donate good quality books and DVDs at drop off points from 26th January at the Post Office, Village School, Village Hall and Preschool. Please contact preschool if you need your items collecting. See you there!

Join us at this year’s AGM

This year’s Annual General Meeting will be held at preschool on Wednesday 19 September at 7.30pm so we would love to see you there to hear about the fantastic year we have had and our exciting plans for the future. We also welcome new committee members at this meeting to help with fundraising and the running of the preschool.

New management team to join preschool

Following Jane and Belinda’s retirement before summer, we are delighted that Caitlin Phillips and Sarah Robson will become our new Manager and Deputy Manager respectively.  Caitlin joins us after 2 years as Manager of an outstanding OFSTED graded nursery and Sarah has worked in childcare for 16 years, most recently as a Team Leader and Inclusion Worker.

We are looking forward to welcoming them both to preschool in September.

Playground makeover thanks to Big Lottery funding

You will have noticed that our playground has been resurfaced thanks to The Big Lottery Awards for All. The new surface of artificial grass has been welcomed by children, parents, carers and staff.

Jane Hughes, Setting Manager, explains why a new play surface was especially important. “As well as providing a fantastic new surface for all our children, it has also benefited our children with additional needs who can now walk and play more easily on a flat surface.  We are delighted with how it looks and we are now fundraising for new play equipment to make it even better.”

Kate Linford, Chair of the preschool committee said “This award has been so important for our preschool. As a charity, it can be difficult to raise funds for major refurbishments and we are very grateful to the Big Lottery for its award to improve our facilities.”

As well as new play equipment, future plans for the playground also include further developing the outdoor classroom including a new mud kitchen.
